San Mateo Mom and Kids Robbed Near School

San Mateo criminal defense attorneys realize that individuals who are convicted of robbery face serious consequences, particularly when those individuals commit the offense using a gun or firearm.  Recently, a woman and her two children were allegedly robbed by an armed gunman near a San Mateo school.

News reports claim that the 36-year-old mother of the two children who were 6 and 13 years old was robbed as the three were walking in the 700 block of Indian Avenue, near North Humboldt Avenue.  According to police, at around noon an armed gunman confronted the woman and demanded her property.  Police say the robbery took place near the College Park Elementary School and that the male suspect fled on foot heading south after taking the woman’s property.  Police went in pursuit of the suspect, but did not locate him.

The suspect was described to be in his teens or early twenties, approximately 6 feet tall with a stocky build.  It is believed he is white or perhaps a light-skinned Latino.  Police believe the suspect was armed with a handgun.  Those with information are asked to contact the San Mateo Police Department.

Those who are arrested for robbery or armed robbery face life-changing consequences if convicted.  A criminal record will impact your life in many aspects, including your ability to secure employment.  Depending upon the circumstances and whether you are charged with first or second-degree robbery or attempted robbery, you may be facing from 16 months to five years in state prison.

There are cases in which an innocent person may be arrested for a serious criminal offense due to mistaken identity, false accusations or other circumstances.  Regardless of whether you are innocent or guilty, you must seek capable legal representation in order to have the charges against you dismissed or reduced.  In order to be found guilty, it must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.  An experienced attorney has many defenses he or she may use on your behalf.

If you have been charged with robbery or any theft-related offense, consult with a skilled San Mateo criminal defense attorney at once to protect your freedom and legal rights.
